The Great Migration, as it is also known, is a powerful experience. It is the world's largest and longest migration of mammals on land and is one of the most spectacular natural spectacles in the world. Millions of wildebeest, zebra and antelope move across the vast plains in search of water and pasture.
On their annual migration, the herds cross rivers in the northern Serengeti, among other places, with their lives at stake as the rivers are full of crocodiles lying in wait. Predators such as hyenas, lions and cheetahs also accompany the large herds. The migration is governed by factors such as rainfall and the availability of grazing and water, so the migration does not follow exactly the same pattern every year, but in general terms it can be said to be a continuous clockwise migration.
The safari tour includes Tanzania's best national parks; Lake Manyara, Tarangire, Ngorongoro and Serengeti. We will pick you up at the airport in Arusha or Kilimanjaro. One of our representatives will stand with a sign with your name in the arrivals hall. You will then be transferred to your hotel where you will have time to recover after a long journey. Arusha is beautifully situated at the foot of Tanzania's second highest mountain, Mount Meru. Just a few kilometres away is Africa's highest mountain Kilimanjaro. The region is characterised by coffee and banana plantations. Arusha is high above sea level, which makes the climate very pleasant.
In the morning you will be picked up from your hotel in Arusha and drive to Tarangire. The drive takes about 2 hours. This is a ride worth looking forward to. You will pass fruit markets, cattle, small villages and women in beautiful colourful dresses. In Tarangire you start with a walking safari of about 1.5 hours with an armed ranger. Walking on the savannah is an incredibly awesome and unique experience. Tarangire is a lush and hilly national park and the vegetation is incredibly diverse. Tarangire is best known for its large elephant population, which you can often get very close to, but there are a variety of other animals here too. During the dry season, the Tarangire River attracts large numbers of animals. At dusk, you end your safari tour and return to your accommodation for a moment of relaxation before dinner.
After breakfast, the hour-long drive to Lake Manyara begins. You will have lunch at a picnic area inside the park. The park is a bird lover's paradise and here you can see pelicans, storks, flamingos etc. The vegetation is dense with many different plants, which is exciting as you don't know what animals will appear after the next turn. Lake Manyara is famous for its tree-climbing lions, but they are nevertheless rare to see. If you don't spot any, there is a chance to see many other animals in a very beautiful setting. In the middle is a large lake where animals often gather to drink. Some parts of the park are rainforest-like and here you can see monkeys, hippos, elephants and giraffes, among others. You will also pass hot springs. As the sun begins to set, you will finish your safari tour and return to your lovely accommodation for dinner.
After breakfast you start your journey towards the Serengeti and the hunt for the migrating herds. The journey takes about 4-5 hours. But even before you enter the park itself and start your real safari tour, you are likely to see many animals. The landscape is largely savannah with characteristic acacia trees. Before sunset, you will return for dinner at your accommodation, which is located in the heart of the Serengeti. Hotel: Tukaone Serengeti Camp Dec - March After breakfast, you begin your journey to Ndutu, which stretches from the northwest of Ngorongoro to the south of the Serengeti. There you start your migration scouting. You will pass soda lakes which usually attract large numbers of flamingos. During the early part of the year and with a peak in February/March, the wildebeest calve and many thousands of calves are born every day, which is an incredible event to witness. After an exciting day on safari, head to your cosy accommodation. Hotel: Angata Camps
July - October After an early breakfast, you cross the eastern Serengeti and head towards the north. You will pass the classic flat landscape, forest landscapes and small hills. Along the way you are likely to see plenty of herds of wildebeest and zebra looking for fresh grazing. After an alfresco lunch, head out on a safari along the mighty Mara River. Hotel: Mara Kati Kati Tented Camp Dec - March In the morning you will travel to Lake Ndutu, an extremely high salinity lake. It is a special feeling to see the morning ice over the beautiful lake and many professional photographers go here to take pictures. During the migration there is a lot of activity and lots of animals come here to drink. After an intense day of hopefully seeing lots of animals, you return to camp for dinner. Hotel: Angata Camps
July - October After breakfast, enjoy a morning walk on the savannah and see the migration up close. You'll head to the Mara River, which is full of crocodiles lying in wait for wildebeest and zebra to venture across. Hopefully you will see the mighty spectacle as they make their way across the river. But regardless, it's an awesome experience. In the late afternoon you return to camp. Hotel: Mara Kati Kati Tented Camp Dec - March After breakfast you will head towards the Serengeti, which is about 1 hour drive from your accommodation. You will then drive to Seronera which is the heart of the Serengeti where there is a large concentration of animals. The area is famous for its many felines and you may see lions, leopards, hyenas and cheetahs here. You will go on a game drive until late afternoon when you return to your campsite. Hotel: Tukaone Serengeti Camp

You'll then head back to the central Serengeti to spot wildlife until it's time to return to your accommodation. Sitting on the savannah surrounded by all the sounds and smells of Africa and looking up at the starry sky is magical. Hotel: Tukaone Serengeti Camp Dec - March The day is spent spotting animals such as giraffes, ostriches, hyenas, antelopes, cheetahs, hippos and elephants. The Serengeti also has a rich birdlife. To make the most of the day, bring your own picnic lunch and eat it at a suitable spot inside the reserve. At dusk you return to your accommodation in central Serengeti to have dinner and enjoy a cosy bonfire. Hotel: Tukaone Serengeti Camp
Getting up early in the morning and feeling the fresh air and seeing the morning ice in the Serengeti is something very special. It's like a calm lies over the savannah. Standing up in the safari jeep and feeling the balmy wind and looking out over the Serengeti is an incredible feeling. Many times you can see different types of animals grazing side by side. After a morning/mid-morning safari in the Serengeti, you will continue on to the Ngorongoro Crater. You will arrive in time for a scenic evening walk with an armed guide along the Ngorongoro Crater. You will then proceed to your accommodation adjacent to the crater. Upon arrival, you will have time to relax and share the experiences of the day before dinner is served.
Early in the morning you start the journey down into the Ngorongoro Crater. The trip along the crater rim and then down to the crater itself is a powerful experience. There is a difference in altitude of almost 600 metres from the crater rim to the crater floor. The crater is called the Garden of Eden because there are between 25,000 and 30,000 wild animals in this area. At a nice picnic area, often full of hippos, the day's lunch is taken. This is one of Africa's most wildlife-rich areas, so you are sure to see many animals. If you're lucky, you may see the endangered black rhino. After an intense day in the crater, you return to Arusha. On the way back you will stop for a short visit to a Maasai village where you will get an insight into how they live and how they live.
