On this safari trip, you’ll explore three of Tanzania’s most famous national parks, which complement each other perfectly. If you’ve been dreaming of visiting the country’s most iconic safari destinations, this is the perfect itinerary. You’ll see Africa’s most fascinating animals while taking in some of the continent’s most beautiful landscapes.
You’ll spend several days in the Serengeti, one of the world’s most famous safari destinations, known for its endless savannas and rich wildlife. The Ngorongoro Crater is often described as one of Africa’s greatest natural wonders, and the feeling of driving down into the 600-meter-deep crater, surrounded by thousands of wild animals, is magical. In Tarangire, a varied landscape awaits, featuring majestic baobab trees, large herds of elephants, and excellent opportunities to spot several of Africa’s big predators.
The package also includes a walking safari accompanied by an armed ranger. Exploring the savanna on foot and getting up close to the sounds, scents, and tracks of nature is a unique and memorable experience. The safari takes place in a four-wheel-drive Land Cruiser with a pop-up roof and electrical outlets for charging cameras and phones.
We recommend combining the safari with a few days in Zanzibar. The island is known for its beautiful beaches, turquoise waters, and laid-back atmosphere.
You’ll fly from the Serengeti to Zanzibar, which is both a fantastic experience and cuts down on travel time. For those who prefer, it’s also possible to return to Arusha by jeep.

Tips
- Your passport must be valid for 6 months after the planned date of return.
- You can choose to obtain a visa either online before travelling or at the airport in Tanzania. The cost of a visa is 50 USD
- Tanzania is one hour ahead of Sweden in summer time, and two hours ahead in winter time
- In Tanzania, the USD and the Tanzanian Shilling are used. Shillings can be withdrawn from ATMs.
- In Tanzania, tipping is expected. It is therefore customary to tip the guide at the end of your safari.
Days included in the package
Day 1 - Departure from Sweden
Today your adventure begins as you fly from your chosen airport to Kilimanjaro or Arusha. We are happy to book your flight to Tanzania, but you can also choose to book it yourself.
Day 2 - Arrival in Arusha
Upon arrival, you’ll receive a warm welcome from one of our representatives, who will be waiting outside the airport with a sign bearing your name. You’ll then be driven to your hotel, where you’ll have time to relax and unwind after your journey. The area is characterized by coffee and banana plantations and is situated at a high altitude, which contributes to a pleasant climate year-round.
The trip to the hotel takes about an hour. Even on the way there, you’ll get your first glimpse of everyday life in Tanzania, with its rural landscapes and bustling city life.
If you want to go directly to the national parks, this is possible at an additional cost.
Day 3 - Tarangire - Visit to the kingdom of elephants
In the morning, you’ll meet your guide and set out on a safari in Tarangire National Park. The park is one of our guests’ absolute favorites and offers a varied landscape featuring palm trees, rolling savannas, and majestic baobab trees.
Tarangire is particularly famous for its large herds of elephants, and you can often get very close to them. Here, you have an excellent chance of seeing most of Africa’s iconic animals, with the exception of the rhinoceros.
If everyone in the group is over 13 years old, you can start the day with a walking safari lasting about 1.5 hours, accompanied by an armed ranger. Exploring the savanna on foot is a unique experience that allows you to experience the sounds, scents, and details of nature up close.

Day 4 - Ngorongoro - The Eighth Wonder of the World
Today, you’ll get up before sunrise and head down into the Ngorongoro Crater, which many consider to be one of Africa’s greatest natural wonders. For many predators, this is the time of day when they are most active. The crater was formed millions of years ago when a massive volcano collapsed, creating the mighty caldera that is now listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
From the crater rim, an exciting descent of about 600 meters awaits you to the crater floor, where one of Africa’s most wildlife-rich areas spreads out. Around 20,000–30,000 animals live here year-round, offering fantastic safari opportunities. In the crater, you have the chance to see The Big Five, as well as buffalo, zebras, wildebeests, hyenas, and many other animals.
After the safari, you’ll continue on to your next accommodation in the Serengeti, and even along the way there’s a good chance you’ll encounter more exciting wildlife.

Day 5 - Serengeti - Among zebras and wildebeests
Today promises to be an exciting full day of safari in the Serengeti. You’ll get up early in the morning to watch the sun rise over the savanna as the wilderness slowly comes to life.
The day is spent looking for animals such as giraffes, ostriches, hyenas, antelopes, zebras, cheetahs, hippos, elephants, and much more. The guide tailors the safari to the animals’ whereabouts and is happy to share their knowledge of the area and its wildlife.
At dusk, you’ll return to your accommodation in the heart of the Serengeti. Sitting in the middle of the savanna and gazing up at the starry sky is a truly special experience. It’s not uncommon to see animals moving about near the camp, and at night you can often hear the sounds of the savanna outside your tent.

Day 6 - From the Serengeti to Zanzibar
After an early breakfast, you’ll check out of your accommodation and set off on your final safari in the Serengeti. The area around Seronera is particularly rich in wildlife, and the animals are most active in the morning hours, offering a perfect opportunity for more memorable encounters with wildlife.
In the morning, you’ll be driven to the airport in the Serengeti to catch your flight to Zanzibar. Watching the savanna stretch out below during the flight is an experience in itself and a fantastic way to end your safari.
Upon arrival, you’ll be met by our local driver, who will take you to your hotel on the shores of the Indian Ocean. Here, you can look forward to relaxing days filled with sun, swimming, and beautiful beaches.
We’d be happy to help you tailor an itinerary for Zanzibar, but if you’d prefer to book only the domestic flight and arrange your stay on your own, that’s certainly an option as well.

Days 6–10: Sun & swimming
In Zanzibar, you can sink your toes into the warm sand, enjoy a refreshing drink in the sun, or relax with a book in the shade of the palm trees.
We recommend Jambiani, an authentic and charming part of Zanzibar where you can get a close-up look at local daily life. Along the mile-long beach, you’ll see women gathering seaweed in the tidal waters and fishermen setting out in their traditional dhow boats. The atmosphere is calm and relaxed, perfect for long walks along the beach and visits to small, intimate restaurants and beach bars. For those who want to mix up their beach life, there are plenty of activities in the area. We offer many unique excursions, including tours on our own traditional dhow, Mimi the Dhow.
If you want more life and activity, you can choose Paje instead, which is located right next door and offers a wider range of cafés, bars, and water sports, especially kitesurfing.
We also offer a wide selection of accommodations in other parts of Zanzibar, so if you’d prefer a different beach, we’ll be happy to help you find the option that best suits your needs.

Day 11 - A spicy day in Stone Town
Today, we recommend visiting the legendary Stone Town.
On the way there, our highly acclaimed spice tour at a family-owned farm is the perfect stop. Here you can enjoy a delicious lunch made with ingredients from the farm and have the opportunity to taste a variety of spices and tropical fruits. Afterward, the driver will drop you off at your hotel in Stone Town. It is a fascinating city with labyrinthine alleys and beautiful old Arab houses. Here, African, Arab, and Indian influences converge, and much of the city’s charm has been preserved over the centuries.
In the evening, we recommend dinner at Emerson, a highly acclaimed dining experience that we’d be happy to help you book.
If you prefer to stay an extra night at your beach hotel, you can of course opt out of the overnight stay in Stone Town. We can also arrange a shorter visit to the city if you want to experience the atmosphere without changing hotels.
Day 12 - Departure
Well in advance of your departure, you will be picked up at your hotel and driven to the airport. Depending on your flight time, you’ll have the chance to enjoy your final hours in Stone Town with a dip in the pool, a cup of coffee at one of the city’s charming rooftop terraces, or a stroll through the alleys to shop for souvenirs and local handicrafts.

Robust and reliable safari jeeps
We use four-wheel drive Toyota Land Cruisers for all our safari tours in Tanzania. To ensure high quality and reliability, each jeep undergoes servicing after every trip. The roads to the parks are often paved, but inside the parks the terrain is more uneven, which makes for a slightly bumpy ride. However, our vehicles are equipped with comfortable soft seats for the most pleasant experience possible.
All our jeeps offer:
- seating for up to 7 passengers, all with their own window seat
- retractable roof offering unobstructed views of the savannah
- power outlets for charging mobile phones, cameras, and other equipment
- cool box where you can store any beverage
We are happy to help you book your airline tickets.
We have access to a system where we can compare a large number of flights and come up with several options based on your preferences, such as departure date, airline, number of stopovers, or departure city. We can book flights from most countries, not just Sweden.
The journey from Sweden usually takes around 14 hours, depending on the route.
If we find an option that suits you, we can also reserve the tickets, which means that the price is locked in for a short period while you consider your options. A reservation is not binding and can be canceled at any time if you decide not to proceed.
You are also welcome to book your own flight if you prefer.
- For a pure safari trip in Tanzania, it is easiest to fly to and from Kilimanjaro (JRO).
- If you combine a safari with Zanzibar, we recommend a multi-city ticket: fly to Kilimanjaro and home from Zanzibar (or vice versa if you want to end with the safari).
During certain periods in high season, we also have pre-booked airports on selected dates, which usually makes the price a little cheaper.
We usually book domestic flights between the mainland and Zanzibar, but you can also choose to do this yourself.
Currency & payment in Tanzania
Tanzania primarily uses Tanzanian shillings (TZS), but USD is sometimes accepted. However, it is often more expensive to pay in USD.
- Withdrawing money
Tanzanian shillings cannot be exchanged in Sweden, so you will need to withdraw money locally. There are ATMs at the airport, in Arusha, and in Moshi. - Card payments
Most restaurants and hotels acceptcard payments, but there are still places where you can only pay in cash or where the card machine does not work. Therefore, it is important to always have cash as a backup. - Small bills
It is smart to have small bills for buying fruit, water, snacks, or souvenirs. Therefore, be sure to ask for small bills when you shop at the beginning of your trip. A good plan is to withdraw a small amount at the airport when you arrive, and then withdraw more as needed after the safari. - Haggle with consideration
Prices are often negotiable, but do so with respect. Avoid haggling just for the sake of it, as many sellers operate on very small margins.
Clothing tips for your safari in Tanzania
This may be good to keep in mind before going on a safari
- The roof of the safari jeep provides good sun protection, so full-coverage clothing is not necessary. Feel free to choose light, airy, and loose-fitting garments.
- Avoid bright colors, black, and dark blue, as these can attract insects.
- The Ngorongoro area is located at high altitude and can be quite cold, especially in the mornings and evenings. Therefore, bring a warm sweater or jacket.
- When visiting Moshi, Arusha, or other cities, it is advisable to dress respectfully.
- Bring shoes with thick soles that can handle uneven terrain and protect against sharp thorns.

January - March
This is a fantastic time to travel. The lush, green landscapes create beautiful contrasts with the savannah, and the abundance of newborn animals attracts many predators. Temperatures are at their highest during these months. January and February are often dry, while the long rainy season usually begins at the end of March. If you travel in early March, you will usually experience the parks at their best, as it is beautiful, peaceful, and there are fewer tourists than during the high season.
April - May
This is the long rainy season, when it can rain for several days at a time. The parks are at their greenest and most lush, and the temperature is pleasant. The advantage of traveling now is that there are very few tourists. The disadvantage is that the roads can be difficult to navigate, and during heavy downpours, the car's roof and windows must be kept closed, which affects the experience. Many animals also seek shelter when it rains the most. Therefore, we do not recommend this period.
June - September
The long dry season is considered one of the best times for safaris. The vegetation is low, making it easier to spot animals, and many gather at waterholes. The weather is clear and dry, and this is the coolest period of the year. In Tarangire, this is a fantastic safari season as large numbers of animals make their way to the Tarangire River. During July and August, there are many visitors to the parks, so if possible, June or September is preferable.
October - December
Autumn is an excellent time to travel, with relatively few tourists and wonderful wildlife experiences. The migration returns south and the animals are often seen entering the Serengeti. There may be short rain showers, but they usually fall in the evening and disappear quickly, leaving a greener landscape and pleasant temperatures. The October break is a perfect week for a safari. December is also good, but Christmas and New Year's Eve are peak season with more tourists. If you can travel in early December or early January, that's even better.
