Packing list for a safari trip

Preparing for a safari is an exciting time. A good packing list is key to a smooth and comfortable safari experience. Here's our ultimate packing list covering everything from clothing and equipment to personal accessories.

Clothing

- Lightweight and thin clothing: Ideal for warm days during the safari.
- Covering clothing and a thick sweater: Important during cool evenings and as protection against mosquitoes.
- Clothing in neutral colors: Choose colors that do not attract insects and blend in with the surroundings; avoid black and blue, which can attract certain insects.
- Appropriate clothing for urban environments: In Zanzibar and Tanzania's cities, it is important to wear clothing that covers your shoulders and knees out of respect for the local culture. In South Africa, you can dress however you like.

Toiletries & Protection

- Sunscreen and aftersun lotion: Important to protect the skin from the strong sun and to alleviate any sun damage.
- Mosquito repellent: Good to have to keep away mosquitoes and other insects.
- Wet wipes: For personal hygiene on days when access to amenities may be a little limited.

Medicine

- Medication, malaria tablets and allergy medication: It is important to pack any medication. If you have allergy problems, we recommend that you bring tablets for this.
- Motion sickness tablets and fluid replacement: It is extremely rare to get motion sickness, but if you have problems with this, bring tablets. To keep your fluid level up, it can be good to have a fluid replacement.

Document

- Passport and visa: Ensure that your passport is valid for at least six months after your planned return date and that you have the necessary visa if you are traveling to Tanzania or Zanzibar. You can also apply for this locally.
- Travel insurance and vaccination certificate: If you have a document with additional insurance, it may be beneficial to bring it with you.
- Copies of important documents: Keep copies separate from the originals for extra security.

Equipment

- Binoculars and camera with extra batteries: To capture wildlife and landscapes in the best possible way.
- Flashlight or headlamp and extra batteries: For dark evenings and nighttime adventures.
- Battery charger/power bank: To keep your electronics charged during the trip. However, there are chargers in the safari jeep.

Other

- Backpack or bag: To carry your belongings on excursions, but also to keep at your seat in the jeep.
- Power adapter: To ensure that you can use your electronics regardless of local electrical standards, you will need a Type M adapter for South Africa and a Type G adapter for Tanzania and Zanzibar.
