Matemwe - Total relaxation

Matemwe is located on Zanzibar's northeast coast and is a quiet and authentic coastal village, perfect for those who want to unwind and enjoy the peace and quiet. Here, the days are spent taking long walks on the beach, reading a book in the shade, or simply soaking up the tranquil atmosphere.

The area is known for its long beaches, clear turquoise waters, and the relaxed atmosphere that permeates the entire village. The pace is slow, and encounters between locals and travelers happen naturally, far from the major tourist routes and livelier beaches.

Just like other parts of Zanzibar's east coast, beach life in Matemwe is affected by the tides. At high tide, the sea is perfect for swimming, snorkeling, and kayaking, while low tide exposes sandbanks and coral reefs that invite you to take peaceful walks along the beach or out on the seabed.

Matemwe is also close to Mnemba Atoll, one of Zanzibar's best areas for snorkeling and diving. Here you will find rich marine life and beautiful corals. Although tours to Mnemba are often popular and can attract many visitors, the experience in the water is usually very enjoyable. Sometimes there is even the opportunity to snorkel with dolphins.

The area mainly has small, personal hotels and lodges, often located close to the beach. The selection of restaurants is limited compared to livelier parts of the island, but there are still some nice places to choose from.
