Safari in Gondwana

Gondwana Game Reserve – Safari between sea and mountains

Facts

Gondwana Game Reserve is located about four hours' drive east of Cape Town, along the Garden Route in the Western Cape. The reserve covers around 11,000 hectares and is a private game reserve offering safari experiences in a malaria-free area. Here, open plains, hills, fynbos landscapes, and valleys meet in a varied and scenic area that differs from the classic savannah landscapes further north.

Nature and landscape

Gondwana offers a unique landscape where Africa's original fynbos vegetation coexists with grasslands and mountains. The area is part of the Cape Floral Kingdom, one of the world's most species-rich plant areas and a UNESCO-protected biosphere reserve.
The open views and varied terrain create beautiful contrasts and make every safari a visual experience, especially in the morning and evening light.

Safari and wildlife

Gondwana is home to the famous Big Five – lions, elephants, rhinos, buffalos, and leopards – as well as many other animal species such as giraffes, zebras, hippos, and various antelopes. Safari tours take place in open jeeps accompanied by experienced ranger guides who share their knowledge of animals, nature, and ecosystems.
There is also a rich bird life here, which makes the reserve interesting for travelers who are interested in birds.

Accommodation and experience

The accommodations at Gondwana are of a high standard and beautifully integrated into the natural surroundings. Meals and safaris are included in the stay, making the experience both comfortable and complete. After the day's safari tours, you can relax at the lodge, enjoy the view, and listen to the sounds of the bush as darkness falls.

What makes Gondwana unique?

Gondwana offers a genuine safari experience in an easily accessible and malaria-free area, which is unusual so close to Cape Town and the Garden Route. The combination of classic safari, unique flora, and comfortable accommodation makes the reserve a perfect addition to a road trip along South Africa's south coast.
It is an ideal place for those who want to experience a safari without traveling far north and who want to combine wild nature with coast, wine, and small towns on the same trip.
