DAG 1

DAG 1

We will pick you up at the airport in Arusha or Kilimanjaro. One of our representatives will stand with a sign with your name in the arrivals hall. You will then be transferred to your hotel where you will have time to recover after a long journey. Arusha is beautifully situated at the foot of Tanzania's second highest mountain, Mount Meru. Just a few kilometres away is Africa's highest mountain Kilimanjaro. The region is characterised by coffee and banana plantations. Arusha is high above sea level, which makes the climate very pleasant.

DAG 2

DAG 2

In the morning you will be picked up at the hotel after breakfast and start the journey to Tarangire. The drive takes about 2 hours and the road is paved and in good condition. In Tarangire you start with a walking safari of about 1,5 hours with an armed ranger. Walking on the savannah is an incredibly and unique experience. Tarangire is a lush and hilly national park and the vegetation is very diverse. In the park you can see many of the spectacular baobab trees. Tarangire is best known for its large elephant population, which you can often get very close to, but there are also a variety of other animals such as antelope, buffalo, giraffe, zebra and all the big cats. During the dry season, the Tarangire River attracts large numbers of animals. At dusk, you end your safari tour and return to your accommodation for a moment of relaxation before dinner.

DAG 3

DAG 3

After breakfast you start your journey to the Serengeti. The journey takes about 4-5 hours and you will pass hilly areas with Masai guarding their cattle in their traditional red checkered cloth shirts. Before entering the park itself you will have a picnic lunch. The last few hours of the drive are very bumpy. In the afternoon when you arrive you will go on a safari. But already on the way to the gate itself you will probably see many animals. Depending on when you visit the park, you will be able to see parts of the annual migration of millions of wildebeest and zebra. The landscape is largely savannah with the characteristic acacia trees. This makes it relatively easy to spot animals. Before sunset you will return for dinner at your accommodation, which is located in the heart of the Serengeti. There you may see, but most probably hear, animals during the evening and night.

DAG 4

DAG 4

Getting up early in the morning and feeling the fresh air and seeing the morning mist in the Serengeti is something very special. But for many predators, this is the time of day when they are most active. The Serengeti has the world's largest concentration of felines and there is a good chance of seeing them. The Seronera area in particular, where you will be staying, is very animal dense. Standing up in the safari jeep and feeling the warm wind and looking out over the Serengeti is an fantastic feeling. After a morning/mid-morning safari in the Serengeti, you will head on to the Ngorongoro Crater. The accommodation is adjacent to the crater and there is a lot of wildlife around. Here you will have a short guided walking tour along the crater and have the opportunity to enjoy the magical views. If you prefer to go directly to the accommodation, this is of course also possible.

Day 5

Day 5

Early in the morning you start the journey down into the Ngorongoro Crater. The trip along the crater rim and then down to the crater itself is a powerful experience. Ngorongoro Crater is the world's largest inactive volcano and there is a height difference of almost 600 metres from the crater rim down to the crater floor. The crater is called the Garden of Eden because there are between 25,000 - 30,000 wild animals in this area. At a nice picnic area, often full of hippos, the day's lunch is taken. This is one of Africa's most wildlife-rich areas, so you are sure to see many animals. If you're lucky, you may see the endangered black rhino. After an intense day in the crater, you begin the journey back to Arusha. On the way back, you may choose to stop for a short visit to a genuine Maasai village to get an insight into how they live.

Day 6

Day 6

You can enjoy a leisurely breakfast at the hotel. If you choose to add our Zanzibar package, we will pick you up at the hotel in good time before your flight departs. If you have booked your own flight from Arusha or Kilimanjaro, you decide when you want to be picked up for transport to the airport. If you would like a transfer on another day, this can be arranged.

Extra day in the Serengeti

experience
"the big five"

lion

LION

The lion is the only feline that lives and hunts in packs. In the pride, it is mainly the female lions that hunt and the males that defend the pride and its territory. Their roar is powerful and can be heard from 5 miles away. Usually the pride consists of a majority of females. They raise their cubs together and the cubs can be fed breast milk by any of the females. A lion can eat up to 40-50 kg of meat at a time, the equivalent of about 400 hamburgers.

buffalo

Buffalo

The buffalo is one of Africa's most dangerous animals and is known by many as "the black death". They can sometimes even kill lions. They have poor eyesight, but an exceptionally good sense of smell. A buffalo can be unpredictable, especially when alone and injured. It is said that they never forget or forgive and on many occasions they have attacked hunters who have previously tried to kill them. This has made the buffalo the animal that kills the most hunters. This behaviour and the fact that they have sharp horns means that they have not been successfully tamed.

elephant

Elephant

The elephant is the world's largest land animal and also one of the world's most intelligent animals. It can weigh up to 6 tonnes, heavier than a car. Elephants are emotional and can both cry and laugh. They can talk to each other from a few miles away by stamping on the ground and can even smell water up to 2 miles away. With its trunk, an elephant can pick up a single blade of grass, but it can also lift an entire tree. An elephant is pregnant for almost 2 years.

rhinos

rhinos

The rhino has been around for an unlikely 60 million years. There used to be 30 species of rhinos, but there are only 5 left. You might not believe it, but the rhino is a fast animal. However, they are poor swimmers and they have small eyes and very poor eyesight. Fortunately, they have no natural enemies on the savannah. But many poachers want their horns. The horn is made of heavily twisted hair and is used for defence, but also for digging. If a horn breaks off, it grows back.

leopard

leopard

Leopards are agile and fast and are not social animals, usually living alone. During the day they often rest on a branch in a tree and at night or dawn they hunt. Their vision in the dark is seven times better than a human's. They kill their prey in lightning-fast attacks. Leopards are very strong and to prevent lions and hyenas from stealing their prey, they drag their prey up a tree. Their catch can be anything from a baboon to an antelope.
